Every hour of every day, people around the world receive the tragic news that no one wants to hear: a loved one has died. In many cases, the news comes as a surprise, and nearly always with tremendous emotional impact. The manner in which we are notified of the death of a loved one can have a significant impact on how we cope with that loss.

The Compassionate Death Notification & Stress Management Program, developed at the Department of Psychiatry at the University of California San Francisco, produced the first comprehensive online training and treatment program designed to provide a compassionate notification practice and address the needs of both survivors and death notifiers.

The Program has been adopted by a variety of organizations throughout the world, including the United States Army, the Ministry of Defense and Metropolitan Police Department in the U.K., Scotland Yard and the Commonwealth. The Program's basic procedures have been translated into Spanish, French, Arabic, Hebrew, German, and Farsi.
